Kassandra is livelier, has more restaurants and is closer to Thessaloniki. Sithonia is wilder and calmer. Staying on Kassandra and spending a day on Sithonia is a good mix.
Only men may enter Athos, with a special permit. Anyone can take a boat from Ouranoupoli along the coast and see the monasteries from the sea.
